[help she's so excited after seeing this memory! also everything paimon says in this memory is also what ylfa was thinking and about to say.]
Nahida! Nahida! This is exactly what I was talking about, about Mother's book! He can do the same thing you can! If we put them in a story, they won't be erased! And then later we might be able to get them out again!
If we can figure out a way to get our own powers or magical items to work, then it could be an effective method. [it is unfortunately a very big "if" and is absolutely not going to work.] It would just be a matter of figuring out how to get to that point.
[or rather, it's more something that makes her feel safe than anything, but she's glad nahida is able to understand.]
I just think it's cool that you can do the same thing Mother can do. He wouldn't ever put someone in the book who didn't want it, but it's pretty handy for keeping people safe and making sure nothing too bad happens to them.
It isn't exactly the same thing, but I can definitely see the similarities. Preserving the Balladeer's memories helped me restore them to him later on, after the Traveler found him.
As it turns out... it's not possible to erase yourself from Irminsul. Because, if you never existed, who would have erased you? ...but he couldn't have known that before he made the attempt.
well, that explains some things, but it leaves her with many other questions in turn. but that's the way of stories, isn't it? it's almost never so simple as saying "this is how it is" and closing the book. even once a story is finished, its readers are left with questions. they revisit it, look for meaning within the pages.
nahida blinks rapidly as they come out of that memory.]
That was... the same wolf in the story you told me about before?
[she is the tank mechanically it is what she is supposed to do.]
Yeah. That's what I care about most. If I'm going to be a wolf, then I want to be a wolf that's big enough and bad enough to stop anybody else who tries to hurt my friends.

He's like, a god of death. So it's actually kind of a cool story, it just wasn't very cool when it was happening.

[it must have been very frightening while it was happening. but now...
nahida smiles]
...you've really become so strong, Ylfa. I admire that a lot about you.
no subject
[she smiles, accepting the compliment, but there's something a little sad about it, too.]
I sort of think maybe I'm strong mainly because the things that scare me and the things that hurt me are separate.
no subject
[huh. she considers that.]

...so it lets you do a lot of things other people couldn't do, because they would be afraid to get hurt, right?

...but you let people heal them after the fights, right?

Oh, good.
no subject
Yeah, I wanna stay strong so if I'm needed, I can take a lot of hits.
no subject
Wanting to protect people is a good way of thinking about it...
[but don't just take hits???? ylfa.]

...I guess I can't really disagree with that. That's what I would want, too.
