That's really not the important part. In any case, it fits the pattern of it being what I looked like when I was younger, just like the other three were.

After you found them, what happened?

...well... first we saw another portal open up. We couldn't go through it, but we could see Matsui in a cave.

He didn't come out of the portal, though. Instead, he... [her brow furrows.] ...he tried to hurt himself, and then the portal closed.

... He was hurting himself, not being attacked by something?

I think he was attacked by something at some point. But at the time we saw him, he...

...the portal closed up on him after that. And there wasn't any way for us to reopen it, so... we had to go inside the structure we had found ourselves on next.

But you met up with him again eventually. You all came back together?

Inside, there were doors. We found... him, Jonas, Shenhe, and... and you, behind them.

Just... behind doors?

[ he's not exactly sure what he'd been expecting to hear, after what kaveh had said to him when he came back from wherever they'd been. but-- hm. ]

...well... there were other things behind the doors, too. But that was where all of you were.

[ he is still listening. he wants to ask about what else was behind the doors, but-- from what he knows this is the part that had shaken nahida and kaveh. or, would lead to the part that led all four of them to tell him he'd died. ]

In one of the rooms, we had to complete... a sort of challenge. There was lava. Once we finished it, we were able to retrieve Jonas. It was after we'd gotten him and Matsui that we were split up. Setsu and Matsui in the room with Shenhe, and Kaveh and I in the room with you. It was a little bit different... There wasn't a challenge this time. We each lost something, instead.

But we found you. And... after we got out of those rooms, the chamber was attacked.

After the first time, with Matsui, I noticed... Kaveh didn't seem to be able to tell when things hurt anymore.

I'm still trying to figure out what it is I lost...

[ if he was that kind of person, his eyebrow would've twitched. INTERESTING. ]

...in any case, we were attacked by a sea monster. It manifested more monsters made out of water... we had to fight them off.

That was when...

[her brow furrows.]

...that was when we lost you. In that fight.

[ ah. ]

... Matsui checked I was in one piece, when I saw him. Said you and Kaveh might've seen what happened, but he's not sure. [ because a BINCH was BLIND. ]

Is it something that you want to know?

I'm still alive. I don't have to be scared of something that didn't physically happen to me.

...and if we have our way, such a thing never will physically happen to you.

That’s fine. But you should be prepared that it could happen— to any of us. I know we know it can, but you know there’s a difference between knowing something and understanding it. You’ve gone through this once already without being prepared, so—

— It’s better if it doesn’t completely blindside you if there is a next time. It wouldn’t be fair if it did.

I'm aware that it could. I simply plan to do everything in my power to prevent it.

...in the fight, you were near the edge, fighting one of the monsters to help Kaveh. When you started to fall over the edge... instead of trying to prevent yourself from falling, you grabbed the monster to take it down with you.

I felt a little guilty, watching that. Part of the reason I invited you to our team was because I thought that your perspective would be helpful in keeping our perspectives balanced. [i.e. self-sacrifice.] But it was never my intention to put you in danger to help either one of us.
