I guess... that's the most straightforward way to describe it. Usually I would only put my consciousness into the body of a bionic puppet at the Adventurer's Guild, though. It didn't feel right to do that to a living person...

No... it's more like, umm... how should I put it? [mizuki is a modern, so...] I've heard of something called the internet in some other worlds - is that something that you have?

The Akasha is a network similar to that. But it was maintained with my power, so when people would link their minds up to it, my consciousness could travel across that network into their bodies.

—Whoa.

So you're more like a supercomputer...

Or the power source for one, anyway... umm, like I said though, I ended up shutting it down.

Why, was it no good?

[dendroculi]

Ultimately, it was no good for Sumeru's growth... instead of fully exploring all the possibilities on their own, people would ask the Akasha for an answer and wouldn't go any further than that. It stifled people's curiosity and creativity.

So they became too reliant on it...

Maybe the internet isn't so different. I always look up a bunch of stuff I don't know the answer to either.

Not necessarily. If it's used as a reference, and you're using it to learn new things, that's not wrong... it would just be like looking up something in a book, before you take what you've learned and apply it to what you're doing.

But the way the Akasha was being used... the average person didn't take that last step. And some of the people at higher levels would misuse it.

They must've been in for one heck of a rude awakening when it went down.

It's been a bit of an adjustment, but... people seem to be handling it pretty well.

[adorabrawler]

Well, they gotta... What do you do after that, anyway?

[dendroculi]

They learn new things the same way anyone else would in the other nations... through books, or classes, or even hands-on experience.

And now people don't say "I'm a potter, so I don't need information about fishing"... I think it's better this way.

[adorabrawler]

... Well, I don't normally need to know about fishing, either...

Right, maybe not. But if you ever needed to, you'd go looking for that information, wouldn't you?

The way it was before, people in Sumeru wouldn't... they'd just conclude it wasn't information they needed to know, even if a situation where it would be helpful came up, and would shy away from learning new things.

That's so weird. I thought people were just naturally curious beings.

They are. The Akasha could have been used to nurture their curiosity, but instead it stifled it... so, I made the decision to deactivate it.

Good idea... So what do you do these days since you're not a supercomputer anymore?

Umm... I've been doing a lot of paperwork, actually. And meeting with sages at the Akademiya...

So you really are like five-hundred years old...

Hehe, yes. I guess it's easy to forget sometimes because of how I look...

Yeah, I thought you were closer to my age at first.

...I hope it wasn't too disappointing to find out I was older.
