From what I can tell by looking at it, it seems like the point is to use those balls [she points at the racks of bowling balls] to knock those things [she points at the pins down the lane] over, isn't it?

Nah, that's basically it. You get to roll the ball twice per turn, so you can try and knock down the ones you missed with your first try. And we just go back and forth doing that.
