[alas, they do not have housing yet, but... nahida still needs to sleep. and so does kaveh, but hE WON'T, APPARENTLY. she wakes up wherever she was sleeping (i was joking about it but honestly she probably did fall asleep in a tree) and goes to find him, hiding a yawn behind her hand.]
[LOOK... LISTEN... he won't, but that's par for the course for him, okay!! Geniuses need their... sleep deprivation to function? Yeah sure.
He's definitely nearby, though; he's got a McCafe latte that he's sipping on as he studies the map he's been drawing of the area. He's probably sitting in that awkward gay artist shrimp position. It's fine. He tears his attention away from his work as she approaches, though, and sits up to greet her.]
Good morning. Do you feel alright? Any different? [He can't imagine why she would, if they're still stuck here, but it's good to know anyway.]
[HIS SHITTY COFFEE... HE JUST BOUGHT THAT NICE COFFEE GRINDER, TOO :< Boo.
He scoots to the side to let her look at the projection, perking up at her offer.]
Yes, I started it yesterday. An aerial view would be very helpful--Mehrak's scanning functions aren't working properly, so I've had to work on this by hand.
It was a little strange... towards the edge of the city, I think where the barriers are, even when we got closer to it it didn't seem like we were getting any closer. But, I'll share what I was able to get pictures of.
[she opens up her phone and hands it to him! the description from the mods:
they'll see what looks like a generic city skyline, but whenever they get actually closer to where the barrier is nothing will look like it's getting like, closer, if that makes sense. so what it looked like when you were like 200 feet away looks the exact same when you are 20 feet away from up there]
[Hmmm, hmmm. Kaveh takes the phone and studies the photos closely.]
Some kind of distortion, then... perhaps it's similar to those walls in the desert, near the ruins? The ones that seem invisible until you get close to them.
...Though, that reminds him.] Actually--I was hoping to confirm something with you. I couldn't help but notice my Vision seems to be deactivated--Mehrak is lacking some functionality as well. Would it be correct to assume that whatever's happened to us has affected you as well?
[Kaveh nods, looking deep in thought. He pulls out his phone and fumbles with it a little, awkwardly tapping around until he gets to the notes app so he can write this down.]
That would make sense, if we suspend our confusion temporarily. [And just kind of. Accept their circumstances instead of running into metaphorical walls trying to figure out the specifics of how they got here and all.] I'd prefer to have answers, but if it's beyond even your control, then I can't imagine there's much else we can do but play along, so to speak.
[her ears droop a little, and her expression falls. it would be nice if they had the answers, wouldn't it? it's so unsettling not to have the faintest clue what caused this or how to fix it.
(is this how humans feel all the time?)]
We're bound to get more information after a team is formed, I think. Since forming a team is just step one of playing this game of theirs... [but. as much as she wants answers, rushing into a decision about teammates would be an unwise move.] What do you think of the others you've met so far, Kaveh? Is there anyone you would feel comfortable working with?
But the question actually makes him perk up a little.]
Oh--I met that young man, Hikari? It's a little funny--I was actually considering asking him, and then he mentioned he'd spoken to you. [Which is good! It means they're on the same page regarding the sorts of people they're looking for, which is reassuring. It's not like he really expected his ideas to clash with hers, but... well... you know. It's nice to get confirmation that they won't. He can't remember the last time that happened, honestly.]
Really? [He seems surprised, because he ran into Hikari while Hikari was doing sword things--but he liked speaking to him, and he's hardly going to argue against helping someone who's on their own, so he nods.] He does seem very capable, and he's polite. I have nothing against working with him.
[Kaveh wants to help everyone because Rang hasn't pissed him off yet]
I'm not sure about the others yet, though. A few people I've spoken to know others from their homes as well, so I assume they'll be sticking together, but otherwise, I think people may still be adjusting.
[Which he can't blame them for... he also hasn't been interrogating people about teams, really, so much as commiserating with them and getting distracted by craftsmanship.]
He said if we could find cards, he'd teach me how to play a card game from his world!
[she looks excited... but that moment passes. it's time to talk business. they're team-building. there's a joke about corporations here somehow but i'm not caffeinated enough to make it.]
But yes, that... seems to be the case. I've talked a little with people about what their plans might be, but most of them seem to be figuring it out still. Some of them seem like they might try to strike out on their own...
[unfortunately, as they will learn on sunday, they cannot form a solo team.]
[Ice-breaker activity: Which one of these three will self-sacrifice first? (Trick question Jan is a mod)
That's cute, though... he smiles a little, glad to see her excited. Lord (hah) knows they'll need some lighthearted activities to keep them all sane.
Kaveh grimaces a little at the thought.]
That doesn't surprise me. Alhaitham would do the same thing, if he were here. [A pause, as he remembers that Alhaitham has in fact learned how to exist on a team] Probably.
[nahida, who knows very well that alhaitham can exist on a team, just nods because he does seem like the type to attempt to fly solo at first. although, maybe he wouldn't if kaveh was here with him...]
Still, if we were assigned to form a team, I can't imagine it would be as easy as attempting to declare a team of one. I hope they're thinking of backup options...
[Alhaitham would absolutely leash Kaveh, it's true. But he'd do it in a way that made Kaveh think he was saving people from Alhaitham's terrible social skills, probably. Lordt.
Kaveh nods, looking thoughtful.] Are you thinking about anyone in particular?
Have you met Shu? He exchanged some information with me, when we were first exploring yesterday, but he sort of gave off the impression that he wanted to try doing things on his own.
[Oh--hunh. He tucks a hand under his chin, looking thoughtful.]
Yes, we spoke yesterday. He seems decent. [Kaveh got offended a few times but it was mostly preemptively defensive, and he knows it, so he won't hold that against Shu.] I got a little distracted learning about his world [DID YOU KNOW CAPITALISM IS TERRIBLE, NAHIDA?] but we talked about teams--only broadly, though. He didn't mention knowing anyone else here.
[Hmm, hmm. He supposes he can't assume that it means Shu's on his own like Hikari, but he does make a mental note of it.]
[she tilts her head to one side and studies kaveh for a moment or two, because shu does, in some ways, remind her of alhaitham.]
He told me a little about his world, as well. And we spoke very generally about teams, as well, but...
[she shrugs.]
There are a lot of people here who have others they recognize. And for the most part, I believe they're making it fairly clear early on when they know someone. If it hasn't come up, I think it's likely he doesn't have someone else he knows, but maybe he just prefers to keep his cards close to his chest.
...don't just let me suggest both of the other members, though.
[she smiles.]
Only agree with it if you think you'll be able to work with him, okay? This is both our team, not just mine. If there's someone else you'd like to team up with, I'd like to hear it.
Don't worry--I'm not very good at hiding when I don't get along with someone. I think I'm getting worse with age, actually. [This is only partly true; he can customer service when he has to. But he wasn't planning on doing that here--mostly because he's keeping his eye out for someone he can trust to help him keep Nahida safe, and someone with vastly different views would never meet those criteria anyway.] I'll check in with a few others as well, and let you know my thoughts.
week 0, saturday ... 1!
Good morning, Kaveh...

...at least he's letting himself have caffeine. she smiles as she approaches, then tiptoes up to get a closer look at what he's drawing.]
I feel okay. About the same as yesterday...
[nothing much seems to have changed. she feels the way she normally would after sleeping through the night.]
Are you working on a map? I went into one of the blimps with someone and got some pictures; would seeing the view from the sky help?

[she frowns, wrinkling her nose a little.]
Since we woke up here yesterday, I... haven't been able to make use of any of my powers. Just the "Healing Aura" ability they mention in the DATA app.
My theory is that it's to even the... playing field... for the game they want us to participate in.
