People keep telling me we should stop trying to understand it - something about the rules we're used to not applying here. It still reminds me of home, though. Like it's meant to be someone's messed up kind of justice.

You'd be right. They've got their own standards for it that they aren't letting anyone else in on, and all that means is now people are scared that they'll get shot down for telling a white lie, or something. Everyone's done something wrong in their life before, you know?

If you don't want to complain about it because you really don't want to, that's fine... but if you don't want to just because other people have experienced things that are also hard, that's a little...
