[here they are at the vr shop! nahida hasn't put on one of the headsets yet, but she is examining the headset with undisguised interest.]

[ meanwhile, lambda is ready to pick one up inbetween her too long sleeves and over her stupid sunglasses. ]

Is something like this new to you?

Hmm... yes and no, I suppose? It's not exactly what I thought it was when I heard about it...

Is it new to you? Or is it something that is common in your world?

[diluvian]

It's extraneous to me. You could say my entire world was like this, where I was originally from.

I didn't need equipment like this.

[dendroculi]

Your whole world?

[??? huh.]

I was born on the moon, and inside the moon is a super computer.

[ as if that explains shit. ]

[dendroculi]

[well, this might as well be a thing. other worlds are weird.]

So the moon was essentially a giant version of these in your world?

[she gives the vr headsets a little shake]

More powerful. It started a war.

[ she makes it sound like it's some random annoying occurrence. ]

[ yeah, i hate it but especially the scifi spinoff of it that melt is from. ]

More or less. That's simplifying it, but it had the capability to grant a wish.

[ somehow. with its great computation powers. i also don't understand. ]

she looks at the vr headsets again]

Do you think you might be able to use these to show me some of what your world is like?

[diluvian]

Easy. Prepare to be underwhelmed.

[ once nahida puts on the headset, she'll see a simulation of a digital space. ]

Hm. This is a little different than what I wanted, but it's the same time of environment. We're not quite on the moon in this space.

[dendroculi]

[looks around... me squinting at the background]

...it looks as if it's a simulation of some sort of space underwater?

It's sinking into the ocean, trying to reach the planet's core, but it is a facility that someone digitized.

Or it was.

[dendroculi]

[diluvian]

A human reversed the damage and turned everything back to normal. She saved the day.

[ so to speak. ]

I never saw what it looked like before it turned digital.

[ so nahida only gets to see this version. ]

That must have taken considerable effort...

[humans are always doing wild things. nahida takes another look around the digital space.]

...it reminds me a little bit of what the space inside of Irminsul looks like.

There were a few challenges they had to overcome.

[ it's an understatement. she tilts her head at irminsul. ]

Irminsul, as in the pillar or tree?

[she focuses, then, and slowly - their surroundings shift around them. do yourself a favor and don't unmute that video, i don't know why they put that music in there. a tree towers over them in the distance.]

...it's a bit different from the outside. But this is what the inside of Irminsul looks like, when you're sifting through it for information.

[ you said don't, so of course i had to hear it for a second. that's a music choice.

she takes a moment to look around. ]

It is similar. If I didn't know better, I'd say it's some kind of digital interface in here.

From what I've heard about how digital interfaces work since we began the Reaper's Game, I don't think it's dissimilar. It's a repository for information - and it's all stored in a particular way, and must be accessed by someone with a connection to it. I suppose that would be the "credentials" necessary for accessing parts of a digital network in other worlds...

[god, she wishes they had the internet here. she really just wants to learn to use it.]

That sounds like a computer.

[ if it acts like one and works like one.... ]

Does your Irminsul only let a select few access its information?

[ a nahida with internet would be so powerful. ]

[dendroculi]

[she nods]

As the keeper of Irminsul, my consciousness is connected to it. I can access it easily. My assistant is of a similar nature as I am, and he also has a connection, so he's able to access it as well.

Aside from that, many scholars at the Akademiya study for years in order to attempt to connect their consciousnesses to Irminsul, but... many of them do not succeed, or only succeed with the assistance of a special incense.

You must reach the state of being a god or something similar. Is that it?

[ that makes sense. after all, if it's supposed to be some kind of divine tree like how it is in her world's records, then...

but she is also thinking these scholars be getting high to connect to a tree. ]

Something to that effect, yes. In my case, it's because my power as the Dendro Archon and Irminsul's existence are intertwined.

I think it would probably be possible for the other archons to form a connection if they tried to, since my assistant was able to, but... none of them have tried as far as I'm aware.
