[yeah, giving this to people who are pretty much normies is my favorite.
nahida smiles faintly, but her brows are a little furrowed, as if something about the memory doesn't quite sit right with her.]
Dreams are full of human wisdom, but... many people don't remember their dreams when they wake up. Still, the memory of it is there, if you know how to make those connections. I used my power over dreams [skill: lucid dreaming] to pull the four of us into a dream, which was repeated in several loops. Every attack the Balladeer made use of - how long it took to charge, where his strikes would land, if he would use one type of attack versus another in a certain situation...
When I was finished collecting that data, I used my power again so that the Traveler would remember all of that.
[oh also don't pay too much attention to the traveler's gender in the video i have some videos where it's lumine instead of aether because i'm taking whatever i can find]
Information is a valuable tool. If you know what to expect, you can win against someone who surpasses you in terms of strength alone.
[i. i actually have another memshare about that so sure, the pig can come back for more violence. but since i'm yeeting so many memories at you i want multiple memories in return 🥺 ]
[ watching this and closing my eyes at how much simon apparently has in common with scara actually, christ
he is also self aware enough to feel a little hm about that ]
...That's pretty convenient. [ as was that pig's timing?? ] You couldn't have done that with someone else's missing memory though, could you? It was only because you had that special way of storing yours?
[lmao. imagine if simon and scara had been in the same game.]
I think in theory, it could have worked with someone else, if there was a way to form the right connections. The memory I hid in the form of a story didn't belong to me originally - I just took precautions and hid it within one of my own dreams just in case.
I should be able to pluck out the memory of any event recorded in Irminsul and make a backup of it in a similar way, and if it's presented to someone that the story resonates with, it should help them remember. But I would have to do it before Irminsul was altered.
[ he frowns. as interesting as this is, it doesn't sound like it's anything that would help with recovering his own missing memories, unfortunately; they were never recorded anywhere but in his own head.
...and as if to taunt him about this fact, the pig comes back to once again treat him to a fun replay of his earliest memory. ]
nahida has not suffered betrayal at the hands of a childhood friend (she never had any childhood friends to be betrayed by), but she does know what it's like to be locked up and to not know when you're going to be let out. but this feels worse. the chill in the air permeates through the entire memory, and when they come out of it, she rubs at her wrists.]
[ that's a lie. knightley was terrified of what his father would do to him if he didn't follow his orders, just like he said. simon knows all about acting out of fear, and if he'd been the one being threatened, he would have done the same thing.
and if that was the case, knightley would have the right to hate him, just like he has the right to hate knightley.
he's not the type to throw his rights away. ]
There was this old man walking his dog who found us before we died, at least.
[she nods slowly. someone had clearly helped them - simon is here as an adult, after all, not as the chlid he'd been in the memory - but it's a little chilling to hear that it was just chance.]
[ there is, at least, a little genuine warmth in those words. ]
...Anyway, we couldn't remember anything after that. Like, our names or where we were from or anything. So he had to just take us to an orphanage and hope someone would come to find us there.
[their families? hello?? even his traitor friend had mentioned his father during all of that - did he really just make his kid kidnap another kid and then ditch him??
[ help the way she's just buying into the traitor thing wholesale is sending me... poor knightley ]
For a really long time I thought he didn't want to see me again because he was mad that I broke my promise and didn't come to help him in the final round.
But... years later I looked through old news reports from that day and found out that one of the contestants was murdered, so I realized that must have been what really happened. That his father killed mine, and then... disappeared, I guess.
[ this is the worst thing in the world because no he was literally right the first time ]

well, that was... certainly a lot for someone from a non-fantasy world. ]
...Huh.

Yeah. It is.
[ he's still not quite sure how to understand that power, and looks thoughtful for a moment. ]
...So it's only dreams you can bring back memories of? Not, like, of things that actually happened?
