[in what universe is choosing a pet comparable to voting off a murderer, nahida wonders... then again, t-chan is a pretty unusual looking creature. maybe caring for the pets from count d's shop would be more complicated than just looking after a cat or a dog.]
They are all different as each pet is also different. Owners receive specialized guidelines for whichever pet they have chosen. We go over them and the fact the pet shop cannot be held liable for anything that happens if they do not follow the guidelines, then they sign the contract and take home their new pet.
[The number of threads I have post trial of people interrogating D about his pet shop is so funny to me.
He looks thoughtful for a moment.]
A family new to our town came in to get a pet for the home they recently moved into, but... they couldn't agree on what kind of pet to get. So I sent Ten-chan with them. He has a good habit of being the perfect pet for everyone no matter what they want.
Someone had come with them they didn't realize, though. The ghost of a little dog who belonged to the previous family of the house. That family had left her behind and likely was involved in a murder suicide because of debt. She died waiting on them to return, but didn't realize she had.
The house caught on fire, but the family was alright. The dog was reunited with her family thanks to Ten-chan, and the new one was able to look for another pet when they were ready on the condition they could agree on what kind.
[she listens, fascinated, as d tells the story. it's a little bit sad, thinking of the little ghost dog waiting for her family to come back, but... it sounds like the situation resolved itself in the end.]
Wow... that sounds so interesting. [she's sure there's a more detailed story on how ten-chan was able to reunite the dog with her family and what caused the house fire, but she's gotten enough other information that she's a little more settled now.] Ten-chan must be very clever to have been able to do that!
Did that family ever end up agreeing on the kind of pet they wanted? Or have they not come back to visit you since?
All my life. I lived with my grandfather in the pet shop while he sold them, and then he went away on business, so I ran the shop in his place for a while.
Now the shop belongs to me while Grandfather raises my son.

Such things do not bother T-chan at all, so he is alright as well.

Through the pet shop, we are used to seeing things like these sometimes. Not the trials, but the decisions.
no subject
The decisions...?
[they make life or death decisions in a pet shop???
she seems a little confused.]
no subject
Yes, the decisions of deciding what pet is right for them. And whether or not they are ready to follow the guidelines for owning them appropriately.
[He smiles.]

What sort of guidelines would those be?

["anything that happens"???]
What sorts of pets do you sell...?
no subject
[It's fine.]

Were there ever any customers who had difficult requests to find a pet for?
no subject
Sometimes. I have many pets in the shop, but not every one. So there have been a few to come in for something specific I had to acquire for them.
no subject
What was the most unusual request you ever receieved?

Yes, Ten-chan is a very clever fox. [Hehe.] They hadn't decided just yet.
But I'm sure they will in time.
no subject
How long have you sold pets to people, anyway?

All my life. I lived with my grandfather in the pet shop while he sold them, and then he went away on business, so I ran the shop in his place for a while.

You have a son?
[oh no... was his son orphaned because count d died to come here... no... that's sad.]
no subject
As of recently, yes.

You don't have to worry about me. Only one team can win, remember?

I don't mind. I understand and have accepted the terms of this game. If my team wins, we win. If we do not, then that is the way it shall be.
